Telehealth Counseling Anywhere in Oklahoma
Clients in Tulsa, Norman, Lawton and rural Oklahoma can meet with Mr. Omar from home, provided they are in Oklahoma during each session.
Chatman Counseling and Rehabilitation offers telehealth to clients located anywhere in Oklahoma, so living far from the Oklahoma City office does not rule out specialized care. Sexual offense treatment, anger management and youth services all begin with a free consultation of 20 to 30 minutes. This page covers the practical side of telehealth: where you need to be, how to set up a private space, and the questions worth asking before your first session.
Where You Are
The Oklahoma Location Rule
Telehealth sessions are for clients who are physically in Oklahoma when the session takes place. Where you live in the state does not matter: a client in Lawton or a small rural town connects the same way a client in Tulsa or Norman does.
If you live outside Oklahoma, or expect to be out of state on a session day, call the office before that session to ask what is possible. Do not assume a session can go ahead from another state.
A Telehealth Session From Start to Finish
Before You Connect
Settle into your private space a few minutes early and keep any assignments from the last session within reach.
Joining
Connect at your scheduled time. When you book, ask the office exactly how telehealth sessions are joined so nothing is unclear on the day.
The Session
An individual session lasts 45 to 60 minutes in a structured, confidential and nonjudgmental format where you talk openly and own your actions.
Between Sessions
Work through the practical assignments you were given before the next session, because effort between appointments is part of the plan.
Setting Up a Private Session Space
Confidentiality on your end depends on the room you choose.
- Pick a room with a door that closes, away from family members, roommates or coworkers.
- Use headphones so your side of the conversation is the only side anyone could hear.
- Charge or plug in your device before the session starts.
- Test your internet connection ahead of time.
- Keep a notebook nearby for assignments.
- Skip public places and shared vehicles, where others can listen in.
When the Client Is a Teen
Youth services by telehealth ask something extra of parents and guardians: a private room where a teen can talk without siblings or parents listening. Giving a teen that privacy is a practical way to support the work.
Youth services are for adolescents 13 to 17, and the youth group is kept separate from adults at all times. Parents learn at intake how consent works for someone under 18 and where confidentiality has legal limits.
Questions to Ask Before Your First Session
- How do I join a telehealth session, and what should I do if the connection drops?
- If my plan includes group work, how are group sessions attended?
- How is the assessment scheduled for a telehealth client?
- Does my insurance plan cover telehealth? Plans vary, so the office can help confirm your benefits.
- Will my court, probation officer, OJA caseworker or program accept telehealth? That decision is theirs, so ask them directly.
Telehealth Questions
Do I need to live in a city to use telehealth?
No. Small towns and rural areas count the same as cities, as long as you are in Oklahoma. What you need is privacy and a steady connection.
Can I join from work?
Only if you have a private room where no one can hear you. A break room or open office is not private enough.
Does telehealth change what treatment asks of me?
No. Attendance, participation and completing assigned work still matter, and cancellations still need at least 24 hours of notice.
What if I am in crisis between sessions?
Neither telehealth nor the office is set up for emergencies. If you are in crisis, 988 takes calls and texts; if someone is in immediate danger, dial 911.
