Telehealth or In-Person Treatment?
The work asks the same honesty of you in either setting; what changes is the room you sit in when a session starts.
Sessions with Mr. Omar happen in one of two ways: at the Oklahoma City office on South Western Avenue, Monday through Friday by appointment, or by telehealth from anywhere in Oklahoma. The office gives you a room set apart from home and its distractions. Telehealth removes the trip and lets you join from a private spot wherever you are in the state. Your location, your privacy at home and any requirement you follow should guide the choice.
At the Office
What Coming to the Office Looks Like
The office is at 5350 S Western Ave, Suite 522, Oklahoma City, OK 73109, and it is the practice's only location. Coming in puts physical distance between you and whatever is happening at home, and some people find it easier to speak plainly in a room that has nothing to do with the rest of their day.
In-person sessions suit clients who can reach Oklahoma City on a regular schedule, who have no private room at home, or who focus better away from the house. Parents of teens may also prefer the office when home offers little privacy for a teen to talk.
What Telehealth Looks Like
Any client located in Oklahoma can choose telehealth and join from a device in a private place, which can make a regular schedule workable when the office is far from home, work or school.
If you will be outside Oklahoma on a session day, call the office ahead of time to ask what is possible. If your plan includes group work, ask the office how group sessions are handled for clients who attend from home. If a court, probation officer or program is involved, ask them whether telehealth meets the requirement, because whether sessions from home count is their call, not the practice's.
Questions That Point to the Right Setting
Honest answers to these usually make the choice clear.
- Where will you be during sessions? Telehealth is for clients located in Oklahoma, and the office suits those who can reach South Western Avenue regularly.
- Do you have a room with a door that closes? Without one, the office may be the steadier option.
- Does anyone at home share your device or tend to listen in? If so, the privacy of the office may matter more than convenience.
- Does your requirement say anything about how sessions take place? Ask the court, officer or program before you decide.
- Do you think more clearly at home or away from it? Choose the place where you will actually engage.
Keeping a Telehealth Session Private
A few habits protect your privacy on your end of the connection.
- Pick a room with a door you can shut, and shut it before you log on.
- Use headphones so Mr. Omar's side of the conversation stays with you.
- Use your own device rather than a shared family computer or a work laptop when you can.
- Sit with a wall behind you so nobody passing through can read your screen.
- Skip restaurants, waiting rooms and shared offices, where others can overhear.
- Silence notifications and close other apps so nothing pulls your attention away.
Questions About Each Setting
What if I am traveling out of state on a session day?
Telehealth is meant for clients located in Oklahoma. Call the office before you leave to ask what is possible for that session.
Can I email details about my situation before a telehealth session?
Email and voicemail are not secure. Use them only for your name, contact information and a general reason for reaching out, and save the details for the session itself.
Can I switch between the office and telehealth later?
Ask the office what is possible for your situation. If a court, officer or program is involved, check with them before changing settings, since they decide what meets their requirement.
What if I am in crisis between sessions?
The practice is not an emergency service. In a crisis, call or text 988, and if anyone is in immediate danger, call 911.
