For Probation Officers

Structured, accountable counseling for clients under supervision, with communication that runs only through the client's signed consent.

Chatman Counseling and Rehabilitation in Oklahoma City works with adolescents and adults on problematic sexual behavior and on anger. Mr. Omar is a licensed professional counselor and CSOTP with 13 years of counseling experience. Officers can refer by phone or email, and any communication about a client depends on that client's signed consent. Whether a court or your office accepts this provider for a given case is that body's decision.

Who Is Served

Clients the Practice Works With

The practice is a fit for adolescents and adults who are ready to take accountability, address problematic behavior and build healthier coping skills.

  • Adults 18 and older with problematic sexual behavior, through individual sessions, the Adult Sexual Behavior Treatment Group or both
  • Adolescents 13 to 17 with problematic sexual behavior, through individual sessions, a youth group or both
  • Adults whose anger is affecting relationships, work or legal standing, seen in individual sessions
  • Adolescents whose anger is affecting school, relationships or legal standing
  • Clients anywhere in Oklahoma by telehealth, or in person at the Oklahoma City office

How Treatment Is Organized

Each client starts with a free 20 to 30 minute consultation and then a 1 to 2 hour assessment. The assessment produces treatment recommendations and an individualized plan, and it sets session frequency and program expectations from the outset.

Individual sessions are often scheduled twice a week and last 45 to 60 minutes, and group sessions run the same length. The work centers on personal responsibility, coping skills, emotional regulation, impulse control, healthy boundaries and decision-making.

There is no fixed timeline. Length depends on the client's needs, progress and program requirements, and the plan is adjusted as progress is reviewed.

OJA (Office of Juvenile Affairs) approved in Oklahoma for problematic sexual behavior and anger management. Court-approved therapist for problematic sexual offense treatment.

What Clients Are Expected to Do

Clients are held accountable for their actions without being judged. In individual sessions, that means talking openly about their challenges, recognizing unhealthy patterns and completing practical assignments.

Members of the adult group are expected to attend consistently, participate, complete assigned work and follow group guidelines. Youth group members are expected to attend regularly, participate, show respect and follow group rules.

Mr. Omar sums up the tone of the work this way: "I don't sugarcoat difficult conversations, but I also don't judge people based on their past mistakes."

Communication Runs Through Signed Consent

What a client says in counseling stays private. The practice communicates with a probation officer only after the client signs consent, and only within what that consent allows.

The law sets limits on confidentiality, and clients receive a written explanation of those limits when services begin. If you need information for supervision, raise consent with your client early so there are no surprises on either side.

What Officers Ask Before Referring

Does telehealth count toward my client's requirement?

Telehealth is available to clients located anywhere in Oklahoma. Whether it satisfies a specific order or condition is for the court or your office to decide.

What if my client is not ready to take responsibility?

The practice is designed for people willing to take accountability and do the work. The free consultation, with no charge and no commitment, lets a hesitant client ask questions before deciding.

Do you also see clients for anger?

Yes. Anger management is available for adolescents and adults, and adults working on anger are seen individually rather than in the adult group.
