How a Probation Officer or Caseworker Can Refer a Client
Probation officers, caseworkers and community programs can start a referral with a single phone call or a short email.
To refer a client to Chatman Counseling and Rehabilitation, call the office at (405) 205-6314 or send a brief email through the Contact page. Include your name, how to reach you and a general reason for the referral. The client, or a parent or guardian if the client is a teen, can then schedule a free 20 to 30 minute consultation. Nothing about the client's treatment comes back to you without the client's signed consent.
Referral Steps
From First Call to Regular Sessions
Contact the Office
Call or email to let the office know a referral is coming, or give the client the number so they can reach out directly. Either route works.
Free Consultation
In 20 to 30 minutes, the client describes the situation in general terms and asks questions. There is no charge and no commitment.
Assessment
A 1 to 2 hour assessment looks at the client's history and concerns, then produces treatment recommendations and an individualized plan.
Plan and Regular Sessions
Treatment uses individual sessions, group or both, shaped by the assessment and any program requirements. Progress is reviewed over time and the plan adjusts.
What to Put in a First Email or Voicemail
Email and voicemail are not secure, so a first message should stay general. Your name, your agency or program, a phone number and one line on why you are referring are enough to get things moving.
Leave charges, case history and personal details about the client out of that first message. The practice gathers background later, during the assessment.
What Happens on the Practice's Side
Once the client makes contact, the free consultation gives them room to describe what is going on and ask questions before committing to anything. If treatment looks like a fit, the next step is the assessment.
Along with background and concerns, the assessment covers intake paperwork, treatment goals, program expectations, session frequency and financial responsibilities. If the client has a court, probation or program requirement, it factors into the plan, though only the court, office or program can decide whether the work satisfies it.
Sessions take place in person at the Oklahoma City office on South Western Avenue, Monday through Friday by appointment, or by telehealth for clients located anywhere in Oklahoma.
OJA (Office of Juvenile Affairs) approved in Oklahoma for problematic sexual behavior and anger management. Court-approved therapist for problematic sexual offense treatment.
What Comes Back to You
Counseling is private. Information about the client reaches you only after the client signs consent, and for a teen, the way consent works is explained at intake.
There are also limits on confidentiality that the law sets, and the client receives them in writing at the start of services. Talking with the client about consent before treatment begins helps your expectations and theirs line up.
Referral Questions From the Field
Can the client call the office without me?
Yes. The client, or a parent or guardian for a teen, can call (405) 205-6314 directly to set up the free consultation.
Will my court or agency accept this provider?
That decision belongs to the court, agency or program, not to the practice. Confirm acceptance before the client begins treatment.
Is a teen referred the same way?
Yes. Call or email the same way, and a parent or guardian can then schedule the consultation. The page on referring a teen covers what the intake includes.
What if the client lives outside Oklahoma?
Telehealth is for clients located in Oklahoma. For anyone outside the state, call the office to ask what is possible.
