For OJA Caseworkers
Youth services that take OJA referrals: structured counseling, a separate youth group, and families brought in from the start.
Chatman Counseling and Rehabilitation provides youth services for adolescents 13 to 17 referred through the Office of Juvenile Affairs, for problematic sexual behavior and for anger. Treatment uses individual sessions, the youth group or both, based on the assessment. Referrals start with a phone call or email to the Oklahoma City office. Whether OJA accepts this provider for a particular youth remains OJA's decision, so confirm it through your agency before the family begins.
The Approval
OJA Approval in Its Exact Wording
The practice states its approval in these exact words: "OJA (Office of Juvenile Affairs) approved in Oklahoma for problematic sexual behavior and anger management."
That approval describes the practice. It does not decide any individual case, and whether the work counts toward what OJA expects of a youth is up to OJA.
Mr. Omar's credentials are LPC and CSOTP, and he has 13 years of counseling experience.
How a Youth Referral Begins
Caseworker Contact
Call (405) 205-6314 or email the office through the Contact page with your name, how to reach you and a general reason for the referral. Case details stay out of email and voicemail, which are not secure.
Family Consultation
A parent or guardian can use the free 20 to 30 minute consultation to describe the situation in general terms and ask their own questions.
Assessment and Intake
Over 1 to 2 hours, the assessment reviews the teen's history, behavioral concerns and reasons for treatment, and it ends with recommendations and an individualized plan.
Plan and Youth Group
The plan sets individual sessions, the youth group or both, with any OJA requirements factored in. It is revisited as the teen's progress is reviewed.
How Parents and Guardians Are Brought In
A youth referral brings the family in early. A parent or guardian can make the first call, use the consultation to ask questions and learn at intake how consent works for youth, including what may be shared with a caseworker.
Intake also covers session frequency, program expectations and financial responsibilities, which matter to the adults managing a teen's schedule. The youth group expects regular attendance, participation, respect and adherence to group rules, so a family's help with scheduling counts.
What the Youth Group Works On
The youth group is for adolescents only and is always separate from the adult group, which serves ages 18 and older.
- Anger management and impulse control
- Behavioral challenges and poor decision-making
- Problematic sexual behavior
- Personal responsibility and healthy boundaries
- Skill-building through guided discussions and interactive activities
Questions Caseworkers Raise
Does the practice see children younger than 13?
No. Youth services are for adolescents 13 to 17, and the practice does not serve children under 13.
Is the practice Medicaid approved?
Yes. It is Medicaid approved and accepts Oklahoma Complete Health, part of Oklahoma's Medicaid program. Coverage varies by plan, so families should confirm benefits with the office.
Can one youth be referred for both anger and sexual behavior concerns?
Yes. Youth services address both, and the youth group covers anger management alongside problematic sexual behavior. The assessment identifies which areas of concern the plan will address.
What if the family lives far from Oklahoma City?
Telehealth is available for youth located anywhere in Oklahoma. Whether telehealth fits a youth's OJA requirements is OJA's call.
