Counseling in Edmond
Edmond adults who decide on their own to address anger or sexual behavior can start with a private, no-cost conversation.
Not every client arrives with a court order. Chatman Counseling and Rehabilitation also works with Edmond adults and families in Oklahoma County who see a problem and want to deal with it: anger that is hurting relationships or work, or sexual behavior a person knows needs attention. Sessions take place either at the Oklahoma City office on South Western Avenue or by telehealth, whichever suits your privacy and schedule. What you share stays private, and it goes to no one else without your signed consent, within limits the law sets.
Your Decision
Choosing to Start Without Being Told To
Mr. Omar describes his ideal client as an adolescent or adult who is ready to take accountability for their actions, address problematic behavior, develop healthier coping skills and make lasting positive changes. A person who calls without being required to has already taken on the first part of that.
His credentials are LPC and CSOTP, backed by 13 years of counseling experience. His approach is direct: clients are held accountable without being judged. He does not sugarcoat difficult conversations, yet he does not judge people for past mistakes.
Keeping Your First Contact Private
A few habits protect your privacy before the first session.
- Email and voicemail are not secure, so keep a first message to your name, how to reach you and a general reason, such as anger management.
- Save the details of what happened for the free consultation.
- Call (405) 205-6314 if you would rather talk than write, or use the Contact page.
- Ask during the consultation when information can be shared, and with whom.
- If you plan to use telehealth, choose a spot at home where no one can overhear you.
What Stays Between You and Mr. Omar
What you share in counseling stays private. Information goes to a court, probation officer, caseworker or other referral source only when you sign consent for it. When no one referred you, there is no outside party waiting on updates to begin with.
Confidentiality does have limits the law sets. Those limits are explained in writing at the start of services, so you know them before the work gets underway. Ask about any part of that explanation you do not understand.
What Adults Work On Here
The focus depends on why you came, and the assessment sorts out the details.
- For anger: what triggers you, how to regulate your reactions and how to make better choices under pressure
- For sexual behavior: identifying harmful patterns, understanding offense cycles, recognizing triggers and managing urges
- Healthy boundaries and empathy for people harmed
- Cognitive restructuring and relapse prevention
- Personal responsibility, impulse control and decision-making
- Practical assignments to work on between sessions
Edmond Adults Ask
Can I call without a referral from anyone?
Yes. You can request the free consultation yourself, describe the situation in general terms and ask questions before deciding anything.
Do I have to join a group?
Not necessarily. The assessment decides whether you need individual sessions, group or both, and adults working on anger are seen individually rather than in the Adult Sexual Behavior Treatment Group.
What if a court gets involved later?
Any court, probation office or program decides for itself whether it accepts a provider, so ask them directly. Nothing goes to them from the practice without your signed consent.
How do I pay for sessions?
The practice is Medicaid approved and works with Humana, Oklahoma Complete Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Ambetter and HealthChoice, and it takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. Check your own plan's benefits with the office before the first session.
